Abstract

Recent advances in diabetes technologies have transformed the management of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), making automated insulin delivery systems, continuous glucose monitoring, and connected devices integral components of routine care. Alongside these innovations, nursing responsibilities have expanded beyond traditional therapeutic education to include technology training, long-term support, and the promotion of equitable access to care. However, structured educational pathways that adequately prepare nurses for these evolving roles remain limited. This letter discusses the growing importance of nursing competencies in diabetes technology, highlighting their implications for clinical practice, professional education, and health equity. Strengthening nurses’ technological expertise is essential to ensure that innovation translates into improved clinical outcomes, patient empowerment, and equitable, person-centred diabetes care.
