"Il Risorgimento"

The journal Il Risorgimento was founded in Milan in 1949. Over the years it has acquired a national and international outlook and has become a point of reference for studies of Italian and European history from the mid-eighteenth century to the early decades of the twentieth century. The journal is dedicated to the "Risorgimento" understood not only in terms of the struggle for independence, but in the broadest and most significant meaning of the word and deals with aspects of the spiritual and political, cultural, economic and social life of the long 19th century. Since 1967 it has had the subtitle ‘Rivista di storia del Risorgimento e di storia contemporanea’. In 2009 the publication of the journal was interrupted, and resumed in 2015 with the publisher FrancoAngeli. As of 2024, ‘Il Risorgimento’ took on the subtitle of ‘Rivista di storia moderna e contemporanea’, signifying the interest not only in the 19th century, but also in the late 18th and early 20th century. The journal is now published in Diamond Open Access by Milano University Press and in print by Ledizioni.

The journal, owned by the Municipality of Milan, is managed by the Comitato di Milano dell'Istituto per la storia del Risorgimento italiano, with the contribution of the Department of Historical Studies of the University of Milan.

 

Focus and scope

Il Risorgimento welcomes scholarly contributions devoted to topics concerning political, social, economic, legal and cultural aspects of Italian and European history, from the mid-18th century to the first decades of the 20th century.

 

Publication languages

Contributions are accepted in Italian, English, French, and Spanish.

Il Risorgimento is included in the list of ‘class A’ Italian journals for the areas 11/A2 (Modern History) and 11/A3 (Contemporary History) recognised by ANVUR; it is also a scientific journal for areas 11 and 14.

 

Open Access Policy

The Journal provides open and unrestricted access to its contents in digital form. Anyone has the right to download, use, print, distribute and/or copy the published content, subject to the licence adopted.

The journal is in fact distributed under a CC BY-SA 4.0 (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International) licence.

This licence allows you to share (reproduce, distribute, communicate to the public, publicly display, perform and play this material in any medium and format for any purpose, including commercial) and modify (remix, transform the material and rely on it for your own works for any purpose, including commercial) under the following conditions: appropriate authorship mention, indication of a link to the licence and any modifications made. Shared and modified content must be distributed under the same licence as the original material and no further constraints may be applied.

Anyone submitting an article to the journal accepts its publication under this licence.

Pre-prints and post-prints may be archived anywhere under the same licence.  See the journal's policy on Jisc.

 

Publication frequency

Article processing charges (APC)

The editorial committees of the journal never charge authors for the submission, review and publication process of articles.

 

Copyright

The authors grant Il Risorgimento the right of first publication and the non-exclusive rights to publish the final work and to distribute it free of charge, in perpetuity, to the public in any medium and in any part of the world, including communication to the public via the magazine's website.

Authors retain full copyright to their articles without restriction.

The author renounces, in agreement with the Publisher, any form of remuneration granted by current national legislation to authors and publishers for the rights of reprography for non-profit purposes.

 

Anti-plagiarism measures

Editors are responsible for acting promptly in the event of errors and misconduct, whether proven or suspected, in both published and unpublished contributions. In the event of errors, fraudulent publication or plagiarism, in published articles or during the publication process, appropriate measures will be taken, following the recommendations and guidelines of COPE (Retraction guidelines | COPE: Committee on Publication Ethics). Corrections will be made with due prominence, including publication of an erratum (errors in the publication process), rectification (authors' errors) or, in the most serious cases, withdrawal of the work concerned. Withdrawn papers will be kept online and will be prominently marked as retraction in all online versions, including the PDF, as a guarantee of transparency to readers.

 

Statement on Artificial Intelligence

Il Risorgimento recognises the importance of artificial intelligence innovations and understands the challenges and opportunities they bring.

Any use of the published texts for the purpose of training generative artificial intelligence systems is strictly prohibited, as is the use of automated means of data scraping.

Authors who have used artificial intelligence tools in the drafting of a manuscript, in the production of images or graphical elements of the article, or in the collection and analysis of data, are invited to explicitly declare their use, indicating the AI tool, the scope of application, the search queries used and the date of use, in order to allow reproducibility and verification.

The author remains responsible for the accuracy and correctness of any published content and guarantees compliance with the code of ethics and anti-plagiarism rules.

Editors are not allowed to upload received manuscripts into artificial intelligence software, in order not to risk privacy and copyright protection.

Reviewers undertake not to use artificial intelligence tools to evaluate manuscripts as the critical thinking and original evaluation required for this work are beyond the scope of this technology.

 

Archiving

The journal activated the PKP PN (Preservation Network) service to preserve digital content by transferring it to the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) project.

 

Printed version

The printed version of the journal is available through the Milan-based publisher Ledizioni.
